Correction Officer Faces DUI Charges in Tennessee

Traveling to and from family during the holidays can lead to accidents and/or encounters with police. If an accident occurs and police suspect alcohol or drugs may have played a role, a person could end up facing DUI charges rather than celebrating with family or friends. A woman in Tennessee was recently charged with DUI on Christmas Eve after an accident.

The woman was traveling to the store at the time of the incident. She had been visiting family in Memphis. She hit a pole around 10:30 p.m. and then her vehicle flipped onto its hood. She was not transported to a medical facility for treatment after the accident.

The 24-year-old woman, who also happens to be corrections officer working at the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department, was arrested and taken to county jail. She was accused of DUI and other charges. The other charges included public intoxication, possession of a handgun while intoxicated and reckless driving. She was released on Christmas, and she had a scheduled court date several days later.

DUI charges in Tennessee can lead to a variety of potential criminal consequences if the case ultimately results in a conviction. DUI charges can also impact a person's career, particularly when a finding of guilt is secured. A defense attorney who understands the impact criminal charges may have on a person's life can help prepare a case for court in the best interests of the person accused. A DUI allegation is just that -- an allegation, and prosecutors will need to prove their case by evidence that meets the strict requirements of the criminal justice system -- a burden that is often difficult to meet.
