An accident in the middle of the night left a town park ruined and also led to charges for the man behind the wheel. The man involved faces DUI charges. The damages to the Tennessee public square is estimated to cost thousands of dollars to repair.
It was around 3 a.m. on a Sunday when a 32-year-old man says he approached the town square area too quickly and his brakes failed. He went right into the park area and destroyed a fence and knocked down lampposts in the park. After the accident, the man and a passenger tried to walk away from the crash scene but were spotted and questioned by police.
The driver admitted to drinking. He also admitted to taking a Percocet and using marijuana before the accident. Police searched the man and found brass knuckles. There was also marijuana, prescription medication and rolling papers in the car, which belonged to the driver's mother. He reportedly did poorly when taking a field sobriety test and was charged with multiple offenses including DUI and leaving the scene of the accident.
The man involved in this accident may have to deal with the possibility of losing his driver's license, paying high fines and maybe even jail time. Anytime anyone faces DUI charges, the circumstances under which he or she was arrested and any evidence collected or gathered at the scene can play a significant role in whether or not a case moves forward. Sometimes, evidence in DUI cases in Tennessee, including field sobriety results or items found during a search of a vehicle, can be effectively disputed and determined to be inadmissible when a defense attorney investigates the situation more thoroughly.
