Some may only associate drunk driving charges or related incidents with acts committed on roadways. However, it is important to note that being inebriated behind the wheel while driving through a parking lot can lead to charges of driving under the influence just as easily as if a vehicle was being driven on a roadway. A recent incident at a Tennessee Home Depot led to charges against one man.
The incident unfolded as the man hit a pedestrian in a Home Depot parking lot. When police arrived at the scene, they performed field sobriety tests on the individual who hit the pedestrian. There was no word as to whether the pedestrian suffered any injuries.
The police report that the man had slurred speech. He also allegedly was not steady on his feet. Police searched the vehicle and found a number of items of interests. They said they found a prescription bottle for Oxycontin and a 40-ounce bottle of Bud Light. The man was then held on cash bond to the amount of $10,000.
In a Tennessee case such as this, the severity of the charges of driving under the influence may depend on a number of factors, such as whether the pedestrian was injured or if the driver had any past convictions for driving under the influence.
