Being arrested for drunk driving can impact a person's finances, reputation and possibly that person's professional goals. Recently, in Tennessee, a teacher was arrested, and now that educator faces drunk driving charges. The man arrested was 45 years old, and he was involved in a traffic accident.
Police arrived at an accident scene to find the teacher involved. Field sobriety tests were conducted, as police indicated they smelled alcohol coming from the vehicle. The police also report that the man failed the field sobriety tests given. However, no mention has been made of the administration of breath or blood tests.
The teacher allegedly told police that he had a few beers, and he estimated the number to be five or six. There was also a cooler of beer inside the vehicle at the time of the incident. He was charged with driving under the influence and open container violations. There was no word as to whether the charges would impact the teacher's job or if he would face possible disciplinary actions.
Drunk driving charges can lead to fines, loss of license and other penalties in Tennessee if the accused is convicted, especially if there are any previous convictions on his or her record. Fortunately, all charged with DUI in Tennessee have the right to defend themselves in court. Many do this by questioning the evidence the prosecution has against them. The exact type of evidence collected and how that evidence was obtained may be two points an accused individual will want to question.
