Tennessee Policeman Faces Drunk Driving Charges

When police respond to a car accident, they often find it necessary to conduct further investigations if they believe alcohol was involved in the car accident. Police recently responded to a car accident and found one of their own, another police officer, was involved. That Tennessee police officer now faces drunk driving charges.

The accident occurred on a Tuesday night in early February. One car was believed to have been heading east when it veered into oncoming traffic. As it did so, it hit an oncoming vehicle. Both cars then flipped, but, luckily, no one was seriously injured.

The driver who is believed to have caused the accident, a 31-year-old man who has been a police officer for several years, left the scene. Police contend he had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. There was also a report that he smelled of alcohol. The man was arrested and charged with a number of offenses. He faces public intoxication, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and DUI charges.

As a consequence of his arrest, the Tennessee police officer has been relieved of his duties until the investigation is completed. Because arrest records are made public, anyone facing drunk driving charges may find he or she has repercussions with which to contend. Those arrested in Tennessee are innocent of all charges until proved guilty, and it is the burden of the prosecution to prove otherwise. As the prosecution must make a case against the defendant, anyone arrested may benefit from having the assistance of experienced defense counsel.
