Felony Lawyer in Nashville: Comprehensive Legal Defense
Understanding Felony Charges in Nashville
Facing a felony charge is a serious matter that requires immediate attention and knowledgeable representation. In Nashville, felonies are categorized based on the severity of the crime and the potential consequences involved. From drug offenses to violent crimes, understanding the specifics of your charge and the Nashville legal system is crucial.
In Tennessee, felonies are classified from Class A to Class E, with Class A being the most severe—carrying sentences of 15 to 60 years and fines up to $50,000. Navigating these charges can be overwhelming, but at May McKinney, we offer personalized legal strategies tailored to the unique circumstances of each case.
Moreover, the implications of a felony charge extend beyond just legal consequences. They can affect your employment opportunities, housing options, and even your professional licenses. As such, immediate legal intervention can help mitigate these impacts, aiming to preserve your standing and opportunities as much as possible. Our experienced team understands these nuances and works diligently to defend your rights and future.
Our Approach: Individualized & Holistic Defense
At May McKinney, we believe in treating our clients as individuals, not case numbers. Our nearly 80 years of collective experience allows us to understand clients' unique challenges beyond their legal issues. This holistic approach not only addresses the charges but also considers underlying factors contributing to our clients' situations. Our seasoned attorneys are prepared to examine every detail to protect your future.
Our strategic defense involves thorough investigation to uncover constitutional violations and incorporate expert testimony where necessary. We are committed to ensuring that all aspects of your case are meticulously scrutinized to provide the best possible outcome.
A part of our holistic strategy is understanding the personal circumstances that surround a case. We know that each client's situation is unique, influenced by their personal history and social environment. Therefore, we often collaborate with psychologists, social workers, and other experts to provide insights that could influence the court's perspective and decisions, making sure that every dimension of the case is thoroughly explored.
Navigating the Nashville Court System
Understanding the Nashville court system is paramount in defending a felony charge effectively. The Davidson County Criminal Court handles felony cases, and it's important to familiarize yourself with its procedures and expectations. This knowledge allows us to anticipate the prosecution's strategies and prepare a comprehensive defense.
May McKinney's team of attorneys is adept at navigating Nashville's legal landscape, leveraging local statutes and strategic courtroom maneuvers to ensure your rights are upheld at every stage. Our familiarity with local legal procedures ensures that our clients’ cases are managed efficiently and effectively.
In dealing with Nashville courts, several factors need to be considered, such as pre-trial motions, plea bargaining opportunities, and potential trial tactics. Navigating these requires not just legal skill but also insight into how local courts typically handle various charges. This is where our in-depth experience in the Nashville legal field becomes invaluable, giving us the foresight to approach your case with informed strategies right from the start.
Potential Risks & Challenges in Felony Cases
Felony charges can have long-lasting repercussions on your personal and professional life. The risks include significant prison time, substantial fines, and a permanent criminal record. Additionally, collateral consequences such as loss of employment opportunities and damage to personal relationships often accompany a felony conviction.
Our Nashville felony attorneys are committed to mitigating these risks by providing vigorous legal defense and advocating for reduced charges or alternative sentencing where possible. We strive to address not only the immediate legal challenges but also the long-term implications these charges might have on our clients' lives.
Understanding the ripple effects of a felony charge is essential: it doesn’t just stop at sentencing. For instance, the loss of voting rights, ineligibility for public office, and barriers in securing financial loans can follow you if these charges are not diligently handled. This is why our defense strategy is proactive, seeking to counter these outcomes by exploring every legal angle to lessen the charge's impact, thoroughly presenting mitigating circumstances, and interacting with courts and prosecutors skillfully to pursue the best available outcomes.

What Are the Sentences for Felony Convictions in Tennessee?
Felony sentences in Tennessee vary by classification: Class A (15–60 years), Class B (8–30 years), Class C (3–15 years), Class D (2–12 years), and Class E (1–6 years). Understanding the specific charges against you and their potential consequences is crucial. At May McKinney, we aim to reduce these sentences by negotiating plea deals or presenting compelling defenses at trial.
It's important to also understand that Tennessee law allows for alternative sentencing options such as probation, community service, or rehabilitation programs in some cases. With our extensive experience, we strive to identify opportunities for such alternatives, presenting them persuasively to judges when appropriate. This strategic negotiation aims to reduce not just the term of incarceration but also to provide a pathway towards rehabilitation and reintegration into the community, focusing on restorative rather than punitive measures.
Can Felony Charges Be Reduced?
In some cases, felony charges can be reduced to misdemeanors through plea bargaining or presenting mitigating evidence. The possibility of reduction depends on the specifics of your case, including evidence strength and legal circumstances. Our attorneys at May McKinney are experienced in negotiating with prosecutors to reduce charges and minimize potential penalties, striving to protect our clients’ futures at every turn.
Engaging in successful charge reduction often requires an in-depth understanding of the circumstances surrounding your case and the nuances of related evidence. Factors that can influence reductions include first-time offenses, provable innocence, cooperation with the authorities, or the existence of any constitutional rights violations during your arrest or detention. Our ability to analyze and present this information persuasively can often be the key to reducing the severity of the charges and penalties you face.

""Do yourself a favor, make Rob your flavor.""I was visiting friends in Nashville and sightseeing around the Titan stadium when about 8 officers drew their weapons on me from a good 100+ feet away, demanding that I freeze and put my hands in the air. My first response was to pull out my knife while i tried to gain focus on who and why this was happening. Is this a joke? Am i being robbed possibly? That was the thoughts racing through my mind. Apparently, someone had called and said someone with a backpack threatened to blow up the stadium, WOW! I understand these officers were doing their job but after they searched me and found I was innocent they still charged me with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer and a few others for good measure. My lawyer Rob Mckinney knew i was being honest and meant no one harm, but I was really scared that it may turn out very differently due to the circumstances. He not only got my charges dismissed but my record expunged as well. I'm forever grateful and would recommend this legal team for anyone in need of a most stellar lawyer. Thanks again Rob and the rest of the team.- Eric A
